Former Washington Nationals OF Elijah Dukes was arrested again on drug charges in Tampa early this morning, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Dukes was also arrested in 2011 for physically assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Dukes was allegedly pulled over in his 2011 Chevy Camero for a traffic violation. When police noticed a bag of marijuana on his lap, he tried to eat the bag of pot. You can't make this stuff up. Police also noticed a joint in his ear. He faces four criminal charges, including tampering with evidence and multiple possession charges, and his bail was set at $4,750.
This is just another sad chapter in the off-the-field drama of Elijah Dukes, who at one point was heralded as part of the Nationals young future, until he was unexpectedly released by the Nationals in 2010 Spring Training. During his two seasons with the Nationals, Dukes posted a .256/.359/.430 slash line with 21 HR and 102 RBI in 188 games.
Well he was considered to be our starting outfielder of the future...and most people did not expect that they would release him...yup I would say both those adjective work just fine. I think anyone who says otherwise is using revisionist history
"heralded?" "unexpected release?" What have you been smoking? @natsbuzztap
