- The Braves pitching staff combined to two-hit the Washington Nationals lineup. The only baserunners for Washington were Brandon Bixler, Lance Nix, and Mike Aubrey.
-Ian Desmond earned his first error of the spring with a throwing error. You'll remember that he led major league shortstops with 34 errors last season, the most any shortstop has had in a decade. It took him seven games to earn his first in Spring Training, which means he would only be on pace to have 23 in a full 162 game season!
-Ross Detwiler was great. While he earned the loss as a result of an unearned run, the left allowed just one hit and one walk over three innings. Most importantly, he mowed down five divisional opponents in just three innings. If Detwiler can finally reach his potential, the Nats could be in much better position this season than they imagined.
-Nyjer Morgan went 0-3 at the top of the lineup, dropping his spring average to .063. While spring production generally is meaningless for veterans, it would have been nice to see Morgan, who struggled all last season, come into spring with his game finely tuned. As it stands now, Morgan could be playing himself out of a job with Bernadina and Mike Morse both looking for regular playing time.
