The New York Mets are “keeping an eye” on Kevin Millwood.
Who couldn’t use a starting pitcher these days? Millwood is an experienced veteran, but he is not someone the Mets need at this point. The team is already gambling with Chris Young and Chris Capuano. Expect to see Millwood land somewhere else, but not necessarily a contender.
The Florida Marlins have several big decisions to make during Spring Training.
I predict the Marlins to finish in last place in the NL East, so they can get away with risky moves like starting Chris Coghlan in center field. The Marlins are always one of those pesky teams that you hate playing, and they will do the same in 2011. They have the talent, but can they put it all together and find some consistency, and how will Hanley Ramirez handle being the primary source for power now that Dan Uggla is gone?
It sounds like Baez will have a tough time finding any playing time in Philadelphia, so what’s the point? Just pay the $2.75 million and go your separate ways. Despite a disappointing 2010 campaign in which he finished 3-4 with a 5.48 ERA, I still think Baez would land somewhere.
They say defense wins championships, and if that’s the case it doesn’t look good for the Atlanta Braves.
Having Martin Prado in left field is going to be an adventure; natural infielders tend to have difficulty adjusting to the outfield, like when Daniel Murphy tried left field for the Mets in 2009. Dan Uggla at second base is not much of a sure thing either. Sometimes it seems as though he is playing the position with a frying pan for a glove.
I still don’t know what to make of Morgan. I thought there was no way he would return to the Nationals this season after all of his “episodes” last year. There’s no question he has the ability, but is he worth all the trouble?
On Morgan, for me, its clear. He is not worth the trouble. He has the range to play OF, but none of the offensive skills. Or, er, I mean offensive with the bat. He's too old to be a projecct. Time to cut him.
@fishtoprecords That's a zinger right there. He may be too old to be a project but I think he is a good and cheap above replacement level player...keep him around as long as he stays in check with his behavior until a real solution comes along
