Nats Top Yankees In Day Of Non Roster Invites
The Nats (4-2) defeated the New York Yankees (2-5) at Steinbrenner Field today.
Some Notes:
- Saturday wos the day for 28-year-old non roster invites for the Washington Nationals. Jeff Frazier got the start in left field and went 2-5 with a dinger, while Brandon Bixler, the starting second baseman, went 2-5 with two stolen bags. Good for them, neither likely has a chance to stick with Washington when you consider the depth of their utility fielder position battle, but if they continue to play well they might get a minor league contract either with Washington or someone else.
-Zimmermann smacked a pair of doubles, driving in two runs while only stranding one batter.
-Bryce Harper had himself a good few innings as he helped the Nats rally to beat the Yankees. The promising young slugger went 1-2 with an important RBI and an outfield assist.
-Former Nationals prospect Justin Maxwell was 0 for 2 against his former club, with an unsurprising two strikeouts. New York will soon find that Maxwell has all the tools to succeed...he just needs to connect the dots. I for one hope he figures it out.
-Jesus Montero, the Yankees top young catching prospect, recorded two singles, and run and an RBI.
-A guy named Fish shut out the Nats for two innings.
