As you can see, Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper was ejected from last night's game against the Richmond Squirrels . The 18-year-old has been struggling since his promotion to the Harrisburg Senators, hitting just .250/.314/.396 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games. In comparison, Harper had hit 18 home runs in 72 games at Single-A Hagerstown.
This incident will likely cause a stir, as Harper already has a stigma for having a negative attitude. We've seen a few explosions already this year from him, and while it's not really indicative of anything, it certainly is off-putting. That's not to say that a hot head can't be an MLB star, but when was the last time you saw Ryan Zimmerman have a tantrum like the one above?
I think this shows the wisdom of the Nats' front office in keeping the kid down in the minor until Sept 2012. Sure, he was hot stuff in high school. He's aiming for the bigs, and it ain't high school. He clearly needs a lot of seasoning. He's acting as if being in the minors is beneath his stature. Kid, let me explain it, you have not yet earned a place in the show.
Batting 250 in AA is not going to make anyone want to hurry your Sept callup.
