Fangraphs is constantly producing great stuff, including, well...graphs...like these.

Jeff Zimmerman decided to breakdown first the time lost to injuries per team, and then the split between that time lost and hitters/pitchers. You'll see that the Nationals were hit the second hardest in the majors this season by injuries, a sad but not shocking fact. Even mainstays like Ryan Zimmerman experienced time on the disabled list this season. The second graphs shows that the majority of our time lost to injury came from pitchers, again, not surprising if you watched the season.

However, I think this is a good testament to Mike Rizzo's claim that the team needs to invest in pitching for 2011 and beyond. As Nationals fans we came into 2010 feeling like we were overloaded with starting pitching, and that when injuries sorted itself out, we'd have one hell of a rotation. That never happened. Perhaps this was a good lesson in understanding the age old adage...you can never have enough starting pitching.

Bring on Cliff Lee.
