After drafting him almost one year ago to the day, the Washington Nationals future ace Stephen Strasburg will make his first career MLB start on schedule today against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This is a day that many thought would never come when the Nationals drafted the stellar talent out of San Diego State University last summer. He was a prospect thought un-signable, one possessing so much talent that he could get away with demanding a record shattering signing bonus.
But Mike Rizzo and Stan Kasten made it happen. They gave the flame throwing righty a plan, and they stuck to it, and one year later the hurler is set to make his mark on the Major Leagues.
As Nationals fans we don't often get days to bask in the glory of being the center of the sports universe, but for today we do.
Regardless of the outcome tonight, enjoy it Nats fans. We've been patiently waiting for this day, and it's finally ours.
