J.D. Martin- Syracuse Chiefs

jdmartinMartin has had a long journey. Drafted in 2001 in the first round by Cleveland, the athletic Martin has been bouncing around the minors, battling injuries and various other set backs. It seems that now he may be finally ready to break into the big leagues. Through 11 games started in Triple-A he has a 7-2 record with a 2.35 ERA. He has pitched 65 innings, struck out 45 and has allowed an amazing 6 walks.  Opponents are only hitting .232 against him.

Bradley Meyers- Potomac Nationals

ph_455122Bradley is a 24 23 year old starting pitcher out of Layola Marymount. So far in 13 starts for the P-Nats this year he is 4-2 with a nasty 1.67 ERA. Through 75.1 IP he has 54 strikeouts and only 19 walks. Meyers was a fifth round draft pick in 2007 out of Layloa Marymount. As he is 24 and only in A ball, he will have to continue to produce at this level to take a shot at the big leagues.

Marcos Frias-Hagerstown Suns

salsunsFrias is a 21-year-old right-handed hurler from the Dominican Republic who made his debut in the Gulf Coast League last year. So far through 11 games started he is 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA. In 57.2 IP he has 55 strikeouts and 15 walks. Last year in 13 games in short season ball he went 3-4 with a 2.92 ERA. Frias is turning into a real prospect for the Nationals, and will likely see a promotion to Harrisburg very soon.

If I'm not mistaken, Martin pitched in relief this weekend. Hopefully, the plan is have him soon replace Colome or Hanrahan in D.C.
