Don’t look now ladies and gentlemen, but the Nationals are on a roll.

With three Nats homers and a solid quality start by Collin Balester last night, the club went on to win 8-3 over the Brewers, winning their fourth game in a row.

The game started by Nyjer Morgan setting the tone from the night before. The slight outfielder smacked a leadoff homer, his third, instantly putting the Nats on the board.

The fourth inning however was the Nationals’ big inning.

The run parade started with a boom, literally.  Adam Dunn launched a baseball off Villanueva over the fence, and out of the park. The 450-plus-foot blast was the first to ever be launched out of Miller Park. Adam Dunn said he never saw it land.

The runs kept coming. Willingham followed up with a single, Harris reached on a bunt, and then Wil Nieves finally got involved in the offense by singling in Willingham. Ballester sacrificed to put two runners in scoring position, then Njer Morgan again produced by hitting in the two ducks on the pond….giving the Nationals a four run inning.

The bullpen took over in the seventh for the Nationals, and never looked back. Bergmann and Kensing both pitched shutout innings, and Villone only let up one earned run.

The Nationals got ahead early with their bat, kept attacking in the middle innings, then turned the game over to their bullpen to finish it off. That is how winning baseball is played, it’s refreshing to see.

The Nationals have again played vastly improved defense however. It is no coincidence that their newfound winning style of baseball has come with their newfound dedication to defense.
